Ulu Pandan Community Centre

COMMERCIAL

Vibrancy and Connection: A Multi-Generational Hub at Ulu Pandan

Interior Designer's Insights

Walking through the newly revitalized Ulu Pandan Community Centre, there is an unmistakable energy that balances modern professional needs with warm, community-centric vibes. This commercial renovation project breathes new life into the shared space, utilizing a bold palette of sunflower yellows, deep blues, and earthy greens to define different zones of activity. The design moves away from the traditional, rigid community hall and toward a fluid, "we-space" concept that feels both inclusive and cutting-edge.

The interior design cleverly integrates nature into the workspace with striking moss-green living walls that alternate with sleek, light-wood cabinetry. This "biophilic" touch provides a refreshing visual break from the digital world, promoting well-being for staff and visitors alike. Throughout the facility, the flooring becomes a canvas of its own, featuring geometric, multi-colored carpet tiles that act as wayfinding cues while adding a playful, contemporary edge to the corridors and breakout rooms.

Community bonding is at the heart of the layout. From the sleek, timber-slatted pantry area where neighbors can share a coffee, to the cozy, recessed seating nooks framed in bright primary colors, every corner is an invitation to pause and connect. This thoughtful renovation ensures that whether you are here for a focused meeting in the "L7 We-Space" or a casual catch-up, the environment adapts to your pace, embodying a true "home away from home" for the Ulu Pandan community.

For the Ulu Pandan Community Centre, our primary mission was to break down the barriers of a typical government building and create an agile, high-energy environment. We wanted to evoke a sense of "possibility," which is why we chose saturated yellow as a signature accent—it’s a color that naturally boosts mood and sparks creativity.

A major focus of this interior design was the concept of "The Third Space." We designed the integrated storage and seating units to be multi-functional; for example, the recessed wall booths provide privacy for phone calls or study without requiring extra square footage. We also paid close attention to acoustic comfort, using fabric-padded wall panels and heavy carpeting to ensure that even in an open-concept layout, the space remains quiet and productive.

By mixing organic timber slats with modern industrial elements like black track lighting and glass partitions, we’ve created a timeless look that can withstand high-traffic commercial use while still feeling incredibly welcoming. It was a joy to see these disparate elements—moss walls, bold colors, and functional carpentry—come together to reflect the diverse, vibrant spirit of the residents here.
